Prostate cancer is the leading cancer among men in the USA and the second most common malignancy in males worldwide after lung cancer; it is estimated that 41.5 million men in North America, Europe and Japan have prostate cancer.
Incidence varies in different countries ranging from 2.3 per 100,000 in Singapore to 61 per 100,000 in Sweden. Rates in the USA, and in most European countries are between 30 and 50 per 100,000.
In the early stages of prostate cancer, signs and
symptoms are usually not obvious. Symptoms vary in accordance with
the location of the cancer and the extent of involvement. Prostate
cancer typically spreads or metastasizes to the lymph nodes, bones,
lungs, liver and kidneys . When symptoms of the disease are detected
early , management of the problem can be initiated, enhancing the
patient’s quality of life.
