Who is EDAP ?

Since July 1st, EDAP is a separate entity within Edap TMS SA.

EDAP THE HIFU COMPANY is dedicated to the development, marketing and distribution of medical devices based on High Intensity Focused Ultrasounds (HIFU).

EDAP TMS has made the decision, as of the 1st of July 2002, to separate its activities into two distinct entities. The vocation of TECHNOMED MEDICAL SYSTEM is to manufacture and distribute equipment for urology, such as the lithotriptors. The other company, EDAP, is devoted exclusively to High Intensity Focused Ultrasounds (HIFU), and thus to the ABLATHERM for the treatment of localized prostate cancer.

This distinction was made necessary by the increasing importance of HIFU technology on an international level: expansion of the Research programs in the companies and at the universities, launch of various international congresses dedicated to HIFU, multiplication of the therapeutic fields of application, strong growth of the demand for this type of therapy.

EDAP is fortunate to be the indisputable leader in this new therapeutic area. Across all pathologies, the Ablatherm is by far the most successful HIFU device to date with its seven years of clinical experience and its thousands of treated patients. It is the only HIFU device authorized for sale in Europe for the treatment of cancer.

By creating EDAP THE HIFU COMPANY, we are giving ourselves the means to reach an additional stage. On the one hand by bringing everything into play in order to offer an easy access to this therapy to a maximum number of urologists and patients in France and Europe (mobile machines). On the other hand by accelerating our Research & Development programs so as to preserve our leadership position in HIFU.
